BRETT BARTON
Here is a selection of some of my compositions, mixing examples and sound design...
Original Score ~ Engineering ~ Mixing

Created for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
Ad campaign showing up on websites and scooter apps.

The agency requested something playful and driving, with an old school synth vibe!

Voice Over ~ Engineering ~ Mixing

Created for the Tractor Supply Company.
Promotional campaign.

The client was looking for a strong and confident tone from my voice. Earthy and Gritty.

Original Song ~ Engineering ~ Mixing

Heard in full on HBO's "Bored to Death".
Licensed from my Mean Sea Level album, "Mean Sea Level".

This song from my first album was chosen for its light vibe, but dark lyrics. I think it plays well with the scene.
Sound Design

Created using layers of an analog Neutron Synthesizer

I challenged myself to use a single instrument to accentuate the movement and shaking of this oddly fluid lightbulb. Each layer of sound connects to a specific movement I was focused on.
Composition

Guitars & Synths recorded to tape and edited on computer.

Tired of being stuck in lock-down, I created an instrumental to lift my spirits. I did not want to edit on the computer, so I played each part in real time, with no edits.
Composition

Vocal "choir" using the voice synth Pipa.

I was immediately fascinated by the sound of this instrument, a synthesized emulation of the human voice. So I composed a piece for it in the same manner as I have for choirs in the past. The haunting mood of the outcome is incredibly intriguing to me.
Improvisation

Guitar and effects.

After experimenting with my first stop-motion of leaves found in my backyard, I improvised a solo piece on the guitar to the video. The unedited and free-in-tempo feel of this is something I often strive for.
